DC Difference-Makers

Results for Development Institute (R4D) is a global nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. They bring an innovative mindset to bear on solving the developing world’s toughest challenges—challenges which, most of the time, other organizations are unable or unwilling to address.

Complex, Multi-Faceted, Global

By nature, R4D’s work is highly complex and widely distributed. As a result, the organization found itself faced with a struggle in terms of defining their core messages and explaining what they do, both internally and externally. Furthermore, their identity was in need of an evaluation and redesign in order to project a modern, professional image on par with the work they do.

Clarity at the Core

Orange Element undertook a comprehensive discovery process that included several days of in-person interview and information gathering sessions, including senior management (Founder/CEO, CFO, Program Managers) as well as mid and junior level staffers. We learned about the organization’s ideas, values, and processes from the inside out, then synthesized & translated what we learned into core messages including brand tenets, positioning, and mission. We then used these messages as a foundation for building out a full identity system including logo, typography, color palette, collateral, and environmental graphics.

Based on our work addressing the core, we have since been retained on multiple subsequent projects to help R4D build and deploy communications strategies and materials in service of both the main organization and sub-branded efforts.

R4D’s work is high-level, large-scale, and changes every day. By first helping build and, now, develop and deploy their brand, we serve as a trusted go-to partner for their marketing and communications initiatives.
