The Race for Results report is a critical tool for the Annie E. Casey Foundation to spark change amongst policymakers.

    Background

    A Report for Results

The Annie E. Casey Foundation has a core philosophy that all children should grow up in economically successful families, live in supportive communities, and meet developmental, health and educational milestones. To communicate this philosophy with key stakeholders and decision makers, Annie E. Casey created a policy report, Race for Results, that examines how race and ethnicity play a significant role in a child’s opportunity for success. This coveted report provides state-by-state data about how children are progressing in developmental milestones. The nonprofit came to Orange Element for help refreshing this report while maintaining its impact within the community.

    Challenge

    Combining Creativity and Significance

Because this is a highly anticipated report for both the Foundation and external community members, we were tasked with maintaining its educational equity while pushing the creative boundaries. And, because the content was critical to the community, we needed to strike a balance between seriousness and creativity to produce a report that inspired policymakers to take action.

    Solution

    Photos that Tell a Story

With this direction in mind, our team chose strong photography portraying children in action—emphasizing the need to take action on behalf of the children themselves. The report has an editorial look and feel, relying on bold, inspirational photos and recognizable brand colors. Overall, we delivered a positive and hopeful publication that conveys the Foundations’ mission to local, state and federal policymakers.

    Results

    A Successful Launch Thus Far

The report launched recently and has already been well-received internally. The Annie E. Casey Foundation is excited to see the action that come from this publication.
