Sowebo Arts Festival

March 30, 2012  |  Events

Baltimore sure does have a lot of festivals going on throughout the year. I mean A LOT. It’s part of what makes this city so great with its thriving pockets of diversity, culture, and arts that we celebrate through festivals. It would take years or even decades of Baltimore City living to experience all the vast and varied festivals offered up each year, but it can’t hurt to start somewhere.

Today, I stumbled upon one that I personally had not heard of until today. The SOWEBO Arts and Music Festival. The festival takes place on May 27, from noon to 8pm, in Southwest Baltimore on the 1100 block of Hollins Street. This one day event packs a full punch of music, art, and of course, street food vendors.

One of the events that really caught my eye is the Soweboposter Show & Auction.  The basics of the event revolve around the idea of “Get One/Do One/Give It Back.” Sowebo Arts provides blank posters with a decorative border that can be picked up at any of their 5 distribution locations. Local artists are encouraged to pick one up, create some original artwork, and donate the poster back to be exhibited at the festival and auctioned off. The proceeds go towards supporting Sowebo Arts. Posters have already been released for distribution and the deadline to turn in posters is May 7. Check out more info HERE to get involved.

I look forward to checking it out and hope to see you there!
